X3 player is a false video player and comes with lost of trojans when downloaded and infects the computers that are running on MS Windows. When people download video files from untrusted sites and torrent sites they offer videos in .avi format. When you try to play them it will instruct you to download x3 codec to play that video. It gives a message “please download x3 Player to watch this encoded Movie or Video” when your try to view the video downloaded. Actually that avi file is not a video but is engineered in avi format to use x3 codec when played.

When it instructs to download and install x3 player or x3 codec generally users immedeately download that application with trojans and install them to see the video immedeately. This application will spread the trojan named Trojan.Win32.Obfuscated.en in to their PC and infect it immedeately. Some times it may also download its own toolbar and search button and adds it to the Internet Explorer.

Actually x3 player is similar to 3wplayer, DOM Player and DivoCodec which installs trojans instead of codec. I found this when one of my friends sent a video link through email stating that it is download of a latest telugu movie. When I downloaded that and played it showed me a 10 second play back showing “please download x3 Player to watch this encoded Movie or Video”. When I searched for the X3 player for quite some time I could download it from a torrent site. My symantec antivirus immedeately caught it as trojan saving my computer from being infected.
